Charles ‘Chas’ Hodges (piano, vocals, banjo, guitar) and David ‘Dave’ Peacock (bass guitar, vocals, piano, banjo, guitar, ukulele) started out as in demand session musicians for the likes of Joe Meek, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Vincent and Labi Siffre (from which, remarkably, Eminem sampled Chas & Dave’s performance for for ‘My Name Is…’), before getting together, ditching their surnames and releasing their debut album “One Fing ’n’ Anuvver” in 1975. Watch rare footage of the boys ‘promoting’ the debut album at a pub back in 1975.
The inimitable Chas & Dave, a bonafide British institution, celebrate an incredible 4 decades since the release of their debut album, with the release of a double live CD and DVD entitled Not Just Anuvver Beano through Cooking Vinyl on Friday 28th October. The 34 track 2CD and 33 track DVD (all for the price of a single CD!), captures our lovable heroes at the top of their game, playing their annual ‘Christmas Beano’ at London’s Eventim Apollo (Hammersmith), on 12th December 2015, with an added brand new studio recording of their debut album’s title track “One Fing ’n’ Anuvver” on the CD.
With their timeless songs of social observation of London life and irresistible and witty lyrics their songs have become deeply embedded in the British psyche. Quite simply they are the missing link between The Small Faces and The Libertines via Ian Dury & The Blockheads and Squeeze.
The CD & DVD contain live versions of Chas & Dave’s eight top 40 singles: ‘Ain’t No Pleasing You,’ ‘Gertcha,’ ‘Rabbit,’ ‘Margate,’ ‘London Girls’ and ‘Snooker Loopy.’ The album and DVD were recorded by the Live Here Now team’s state of the art mobile recording facility.
