Led by singer/lyricist Robert Lloyd (‘The most underestimated songwriter of his generation’ according to Ben Thompson in the Independent) the latest incarnation of the Nightingales – the best batch yet – release their new album “No Love Lost” on Cooking Vinyl in April 2012.

Born out of Birmingham’s original punk group The Prefects, the Nightingales have stubbornly ploughed their own furrow in the field of alternative rock n roll for three decades.

Described in John Robb’s definitive post punk biography ‘Death To Trad Rock’ as “the misfits’ misfits”, the band has constantly garnered praise and respect from other artists and received endless glowing press reports, particularly for their live shows.

To coincide with the album’s release the Nightingales will be touring the UK and mainland Europe. The UK shows follow their May 2011 tour which culminated in a headline performance at the Southbank Centre in London as part of Stewart Lee’s Austerity Binge and the Festival Of Britain, which Mojo magazine called “Astonishing” and “Gig of the year”.

In addition to the group’s own activity there is a Nightingales ‘tribute’ album planned featuring ‘Gales covers by punk and post punk legends (Raincoats, Mekons, Subway Sect, others), young contemporary bands (Art Brut, Lovely Eggs, others), stand up comedians (Stewart Lee, Phill Jupitus) and academic/author Greil Marcus.

“No Love Lost” the new Nightingales album – their finest yet and first for Cooking Vinyl – was recorded at Faust Studio in Germany and will be released in April 2012.

SOME REVIEWS ON THE LAST ALBUM
Lloyd is the most underestimated songwriter of his generation – THE
INDEPENDENT, UK
The new album from the ‘Gales is their finest for 27 years. Start here and work backwards – SUNDAY TIMES, UK
Unlovable as ever. The Nightingales remain hard work for precious little gain – MOJO, UK
This is a living, breathing beast of an album – ARTROCKER MAGAZINE, UK
The Nightingales revisited their past and offered up the future. Still stunningly relevant – LONDON EVENING STANDARD, UK
The Nightingales – they’re back and they’re marvellous – MARC RILEY/BBC 6 MUSIC, UK

Sam Duckworth has been keeping himself busy as ever as Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly have announced the release of a new album, hot on the heels of last year’s solo Duckworth effort The Mannequin. The record, titled Maps, will be released through Cooking Vinyl on May 7th.

Maps sees GCWCF refine and focus the burgeoning ideas first addressed in 2010’s self titled third album. Album opener The Real McCoy is a straight up indie-pop belter that touches on a sound reminiscent of early Blur, a direction GCWCF were leaning towards in the previous record and is effectively realised in Maps. Another clear example of this is apparent in lead single Daylight Robbery, a tune that boasts an infectious sing along intro before breaking into a catchy up-tempo foot tapper.

Daylight Robbery will be available as a single from April 30th via Cooking Vinyl

The record also features guest vocals from acclaimed UK hip hop MC Jehst on The Long And Short Of It All. Maps is testament to Duckworth’s eclectic tastes yet maintains a narrative and never strays too far from his signature and acclaimed styles, an accomplishment that many musicians strive to achieve in their careers.

Maps Track Listing:
1. The Real McCoy
2. Vital Statistics
3. Daylight Robbery

For the new Reverend And The Makers video ‘Bassline’ we’re asking the fans to star in and direct the video itself. We are asking you to film yourselves on your camera phones getting ready to go out, on the bus on the way out and out clubbing. We’re also asking you lucky ones at the Noel Gallagher O2 Arena show to film yourselves at the gig, film Reverend And The Makers and Jon will film you.

From Jon…..

“Ok so we wanted to allow our fans to make and be in the video for Bassline. However rather than loadsa people work dead hard and us pick one winner we had a better idea. This weekends payday so how bout u film u n your mates out on the lash having it, maybe boozing before u go out and send us the footage. We edit it all together and who knows you might be in the final video. nice one”

All we ask is the following.

Please make sure that there is decent light in your video, use your flash if you’re worried about this.

Make sure you’re using a decent camera phone, really low resolution footage won’t be able to be used

Make sure that the video is in focus.

Make sure that your videos are sent to us by Midnight on Tuesday 28th February at the latest.

Lastly, and very importantly, make sure you send your name in with your video so we can credit you!

1 lucky person will also recieve a signed copy of @Reverend_Makers & guestlist for them and a friend to one of the shows on the May tour (not including Leeds)

PLEASE UPLOAD VIDEOS AT wetransfer.com
